January Month Special Events

National Technology Day and Tailoring Second Phase Inauguration were conducted on 07.01.2023 at 11.30am in Palayam regional office. 40 participants took part in the function. Function was presided over by Dr.Maria William, Theni Animator and Mr.Eliyas Raja, Theni DCO. Mr.Samuthirapandian, RCo welcomed everyone. Mrs. Eswari sang an awareness song which insisted the importance of savings and handicraft. Mr.Eliyas spoke about the purpose of training and advised the students to utilize the benefits from the training and to use in for livelihood. Dr. Maria William spoke about the development of women and tailoring for self-employment. He added that, entrepreneurship is more about the satisfaction that comes from satisfying customers. He pointed out that by sewing with ‘aari work’, maximum number of customers can be attracted and the technicalities of handicrafts should be learned and developed. The function ended with vote of thanks by Mrs. Esther Rani.

World Religions’ Day and ‘Ezhuvom Iyyakam’ Cancer Awareness Phase III Inauguration Ceremony were conducted on 21.01.2023 at St. Joseph’s High School, Samayanallur at 3:30 PM. 49 Self-Help-Groups participated in this event. The event started with welcome address by Mr.Justin, the coordinator and the lighting of the lamp. Children of the area danced for an awareness song. Rev. Fr. Paul Britto, the Parish Priest of Samayanallur and school principal spoke about the purpose of the event they said that all the people in this village live peacefully and celebrate the parish festival irrespective of their religion. Dr. Usha Devi, a former student of this school explained basic information about cancer and treatment. The Secretary Fr.Gabriel talked about the World Religions’ Day and Phase III cancer campaign. He explicated that we should take good and healthy food to protect ourselves from cancer. Mr. Malayalam, Chairman of the Panchayat Council in his speech spoke about religious harmony and cancer awareness. The function ended with vote of thanks by Mrs.Fathima from Self-Help Group.

World Leprosy Day and Cancer Awareness program were conducted on 28.01.2023 at Arulnagar regional office at 2:00 p.m. 46 SHG members took part in this function. Rev.Fr.Rajan and Rev.Fr.Stalin, Assistant Secretaries of MMSSS presided over the function. Mr.Justin, Coordinator welcomed everyone. Special guest Mr.Sagaya Raj, Retired Health Inspector shared his experience on identifying and rescuing the persons affected by leprosy. He helped them to improve their economic condition and to engage small business like goat and cow rearing. He briefed that there are still people having wrong belief that they consider leprosy symptoms to be like snake bites or insects’ bites. He explained the symptoms and reasons of leprosy and insisted the participants to have regular health checkup and if they feel have symptoms then they can contact the hospital immediately. And the function continued with the Cancer Awareness program presided over by the Ms.Prema, Village Nurse from AmmayyaNayakanoor. She shared about the reasons for cancer and awareness about the breast cancer, mouth cancer, and cervical cancer. He insisted that the people should have healthy diet. The function ended with vote of thanks by Mrs.Backiyalakshmi.

International Street Children’s Day was celebrated on 30.01.2023 at Aruppukottai regional office. 35 Self-Help-Group members took part in the function. They introduced themselves. The session sharing was related to 1098 child line and shared about the rights, problems of children and the importance of 1098 and they insisted that 1098 will help you in the time of need. The Function ended with vote of thanks by Mrs.Gnanam.
